Adult acne Skin Care

Adult acne

A new moisturiser targets imperfections, mattifies and hydrates the skin.
ACNE isn’t just a teenage problem. Adults aged 20 to 40 years old can also suffer from acne, pimples and shine due to stress, fatigue and hormonal imbalance.
Even after turning 30, some women have shiny, oily and acne-prone skin. But many are reluctant to resort to excessive drying out treatments usually employed for adolescents as they are worried that their skin may become dehydrated and its condition may worsen.
Clean and clear: Rigorous cleaning of the face will not help clear pimpl es but a suitable toner will help reduce exces s oil.
Weakened adult skin with imperfections, however, needs daily skincare that effectively fights against unsightly skin problems, as well as dehydration.
Rigorous cleaning of the face will not help clear pimples, says consultant dermatologist Dr Ting Hoon Chin. A suitable toner, on the other hand, will help reduce excess oil.
“A combined treatment can target more than one of the causes of acne including excess sebum. And as you clean, you need to hydrate the skin as well,” he adds.
He observes that some people cannot resist pinching their pimples. But note that this may cause the whiteheads to go deeper inside the pore and become inflammed, he says.
And while some believe that certain foods such as spice and chocolates can cause pimples and aggravate acne, Dr Ting says there are no actual studies that indicate what you eat can cause breakouts. Heavy and oily make-up, however, can make pimples worse.
Vichy Laboratoires believes that to reconstruct healthy skin, targeting imperfections is not enough. Healthy skin needs to be shine-free, well-hydrated so that the skin can regain its original luminosity and radiance.
The new Normaderm Tri-Activ Anti-Imperfection Hydrating Care by Vichy is said to be different from other moisturisers because it treats imperfections (pimples and clogged pores), mattifies and hydrates the skin.
It integrates three “peeling” active ingredients such as salicylic acid, glycolic acid and lipo hydroxy acid (LHA) to renew the epidermis layer for a healthy, flawless and luminous skin.
LHA works on the surface, and is a gentle exfoliating agent that optimises desquamation and cell renewal, thus preventing the accumulation of cells in the pores. At the pore level, salicylic acid encourages the removal of dead skin cells by loosening the cells accumulated in the sebum duct that obstructs and generates imperfections through clogged pores, resulting in smoother and softer skin. It also boasts anti-inflammatory properties.
Glycolic acid enables penetration deep down into the epidermis to exfoliate and stimulate cellular renewal.
To combat skin’s excess sebum production, silica absorbs and controls skin’s sebum production, while Vichy thermal spa water and glycerin keep the skin hydrated.
The moisturiser has a light, non-oily emulsion texture for fast and easy absorption, designed for all skin types including sensitive Asian skin. It is said to refine skin’s texture for a healthier skin within one month. After four weeks of application, it is claimed that 92% of women found their skin less oily while 73% felt that they had fewer imperfections.
